Biography
Mary Anne Harkness
Mary
Anne Harkness currently resides in southwest Washington, following
her passion, painting landscapes and capturing nature one moment in
time. Those viewing her work often feel as it they are experiencing
the location first hand.
Mary Anne first became interested in art during her early childhood
while living in Laguna Beach and later in San Diego. She had a
constant fascination with the ocean, crashing waves, and sea life in
tide pools. While studying art at Arizona Sate University and
American University in Washington DC, she became interested in
Winslow Homer’s seascapes, and Monet’s impressionistic style that
captured fleeting moments of nature. Additionally, she traveled
around the world with World Campus Afloat, viewing some of the
greatest works of art, and some of the greatest natural wonders in
nature, all of which had a major influence on her art.
Mary Anne has recently expanded her work using acrylics, pours,
monotypes, and textual materials, such as rice paper, letting the
colors and painting go in a direction that is exciting and
spontaneous.
In the last several years, her work has been juried into shows with
the Southwest Watercolor Society, Northwest Watercolor Society,
Peninsula Art League, and Lake Oswego Festival of Arts.
